Walter Herzog zeigt in der Radierung eine Ansicht der Ruine des Traianstempels in Pergamon aus dem frühen 2. Jh. n. Chr. Im Vordergrund erhebt sich vom Stylobat die Gruppe der aufrecht stehenden korinthischen Säulen mit dem - aufgrund der starken perspektivischen Verkürzung - kaum sichtbaren Giebelansatz. Im Mittel- und Hintergrund erkennt man weitere Säulenschäfte und Ruinen der gemauerten Teile des Tempelareals. In weiter Ferne ist das Gebirge angedeutet.
